PITTA

Pitta (fire and water):
Someone with a lot of Pitta in their prakriti will most likely be driven, passionate, competitive and- to use a fitting term- ‘fiery’.  They probably subscribe to the mantra ‘work hard, play hard’ whilst also being people who like to dot the 'i' and cross the 't' as Pitta types love order and structure.  Whereas Vata types like to think of new ideas and start things, Pitta types are focused, organised  and determined, enjoying seeing things through.  Pitta types are likely to be precise and great at motivating others because of their good communication skills.

Those with lots of Pitta in them tend to be fit and active with a medium to strong build.  They often enjoy sports and are good at them.  They have strong digestive systems with a good appetite.  It is Pitta types who will get irritable or ‘hangry’ before a meal.  Pitta types will often be drawn to hot, spicy food and other heating things such as alcohol.  This is usually fine in their youth, but will tend to cause problems once they start getting to the middle part of life (I’m deliberately avoiding the term ‘middle aged’ here!).

When our Pitta dosha is out of balance we can be sarcastic, angry, irritable, critical and controlling. We may overheat easily and and become 'hot and bothered'. It may be experienced as a craving for sweet things, intense hunger or thirst, abdomen pain, burning sensations (anywhere in the body), yellowish eyes and tongue, or dark yellow urine. A Pitta imbalance may also manifest as acne, rashes, hives and other inflammatory skin diseases, IBS, heartburn and acid reflux, fever, migraines or diarrhea.
